The finished wally is painted with a type of builders paint ( believe it is primer ) and the unfinished wall is not. I have mesh tape with one side sticky or should I buy a roll of that beaded corner tape ?To join finished drywall ( painted with primer ) to unfinished drywall should I use mesh tape or paper tape.?
I use mesh exclusively for nearly 5 years now.

Thanks BEACH, for the thumbs down, and I took no real offense at your rudeness. I do enjoy that we have the 1st. ammendment and are allowed opinions, but I suspect yours works for you, and yet may not for others. I've been painting and have been a contractor most of my 64 years, and you can have the paper tape. I happen to find the mesh, more stable, stronger, as easy to mud over when used appropriately, AND I like to think of myself as a PROFESSIONAL. Have a nice day.

Just my two ';sense';To join finished drywall ( painted with primer ) to unfinished drywall should I use mesh tape or paper tape.?
I hate the mesh tape..I have painted 37 years and refuse to use it after a couple times..I think for the home doer it is fine that do not know how to hang paper tape and wipe it down properly without wiping too much mud out from behind it causing a blister....As I say i detest this stuff and any real professional feels the same as I do..You have some handymen and general contractors that use it, but this is because the ';jack of all trades'; type contractors..do not really know how to hang tape properly and they save a step this way..they think...You still need 3 coats of mud on a drywall job for it to be proper, and hanging tape with paper tape requires one coat that usually or shouldfill the tapered areas of the sheetrock edges..it is a shortcut thing and most do not apply the full three coats when using fiberglass tape , so when the job is painted..then it shows the indents from not being properly applied..Buttt..as I home doer..I would suggest using the fiberglass..just apply 3 coats of mud like you usually would..
OK, it sounds like the Pros are having a disagreement.
I am NOT a professional, but I have done a lot of remodeling (out of necessity).
I have used both mesh and tape. For the DIYer (without much experience) the mesh tape is easier to use.
But, you will see the mesh pattern, if you do not use enough mud or you sand down to much.
Tape leaves a better finish, however if you don't get it applied well, it can come loose after a few years.
The good part is that is does not take to much practice to get a decent looking job with the tape.
Personally, I like the tape the best. After having using both (quite a bit) I can get better results with the tape.
Both of the pros are probably very good, I think it comes down to what YOU feel more comfortable using. Practice some with both (neither are expensive).
I prefer paper, husband prefers mesh. It's all about what you're comfortable using.
We've both done a lot of taping and mudding!
I like the mesh!
Stick it on and mud it!
