Is it safe to use paint in an aviary? if so, any specific type? is drywall safe?

my dad is building an aviary for my mom, and he just wanted to know what kind of materials have a potential to be harmful. any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks! :)Is it safe to use paint in an aviary? if so, any specific type? is drywall safe?
Water base interior ( non-toxic %26amp; lead free )

I would not recommend gloss enamels, it looks good but some birds may pick at the paint and start it to peel or even eat it.

Use white or very light a color. The lighter colors can help natural lighting, then you can add plants to the flooring.

Some animals have a reaction to ceder so I do not recommand use it for flooring. Garden rock with pine and/or cypes chips.

I know some very nice garden floor aviary's, combination of plant, rock and chips, and they are easer to clean.

I do not recommend using glass, for the safety of the bird but if you must, I would not use clear glass or clear plastic for windows, The clear glass magnifies sun rays which may harm the birds with out being noticed. A light tent will help prevent this and still allow plenty of light.

Windows should be east and west to allow morning and evening sun.

It should be well vented to allow fresh air!

My Mews ( aviary's ) are 512 sq ft minimum, that's 8'w x 8'h x 8'L for each of my birds, but size should be according to the species and number of birds you are planing to have.

A minimum ideal size is 2 X wingspan wide %26amp; high X wing span X birds long.

( ex- a eagle would be 12'w x 12'h x 12'L and 2 eagles would be 12'w x 12' h x 24'L ) :)

You can't put two eagles in the same aviary nor can you put some parrot families with some other birds so be sure they get alone with each other before leaving them alone togather.

No paint is safe for any parrot or bird! I'm sorry. The paint on the bird toys are almost always vegetable dye, Which is bird-safe.

If you have any other questions please IM or Email me, I'm glad to help.
Much depends on the type of birds you plan on placing in the aviary. Next is how large the aviary will be. As to paints your average water based interior paints are none toxic and safe to use. If you are using a glass front then be sure to place a screen in front of the glass. The reason for this is so the birds do not fly and hit the glass. The screen creates a cushioned barrier. Wood is prefered over metals for the backing, it allows the birds to have traction if they decide to fly up the wall. Also a fabric should be placed abour 6 inches below the top inside and stretch tight. Again this is to prevent injury to a flting bird. Aviaries are great and I recommend them over cages any day, the more space birds have the better. Mine are out door aviaries and are some 500 square feet. I don't recommend ones that large to everyone. Inside ones can be beautiful if done correctly. Most depends on how much space you have to work with.
