My unfinished basement has very high ceilings, do you think if i drywall the walls and paint the ceiling..cont?

black exposing the metal pipes and ducts, it would give a loft feel to the basement? Do you have any other suggestions?

-My basement ceilings are about 12 and a half feet high.

Thank you!My unfinished basement has very high ceilings, do you think if i drywall the walls and paint the ceiling..cont?
I like it. You could even go a step further and add a few fake ducts with plastic pipe or stove pipe. It can be painted so it doesn't look so plastic, and if you hang it with pipe hangers it'll look cool. Make the fake ones really big so you don't get mixed up with the real ones! Maybe a few wide cedar boards on the walls would make it look like you had massive timbers holding the place up. A few pipes screwed to the walls would help too.My unfinished basement has very high ceilings, do you think if i drywall the walls and paint the ceiling..cont?
I think a lightweight suspended ceiling would look better but of course they are quite expensive. So painting the whole ceiling and part down the wall say to a picture rail to reduce the height of the room is a good cheap alternative. You do not have to use black but any very dark colour (e.g dark purple, blue, brown). You can of course highlight pipes if that looks good to you but in my experience painting them the same colour as the ceiling is better.
if you painted the ceiling black do you have any idea how dark your basement will be? light in a room reflects mainly off of the ceiling and if you paint it black you will have terrible light down there. further more if you ever need to have a plumber or any other trade do work on your ceiling they will curse you for painting it. have you ever tried to solder a copper pipe that has been painted? unless you get it perfectly clean the solder doesn't stick. oh and by the way mike holmes is one of the most arrogant people on this planet. why would anyone watch his show.
If i was you then i would get a Tradesman into do the job for you and check that he has the proper licence to do the job and permits from local government office

also i think you are either in USA or Canada as you have a basement so would say check out the TV show Holmes on Homes as the work he has put right after the COWBOYS builders have been in He says in the show NO PERMIT NO LICENCE No Job and don't part with the Money too soon

nice concept. the only problem would be cobwebs. If you want to jazz it up try multi colors such as; blue, green ,red . since lighting is important try indirect lighting overhead
