Can I paint over moldy drywall?

Will the chemicals in the paint kill the mold? I've never seen paint growing on mold. Can I paint over moldy drywall?
No you do not want to paint over mold. The best thing to do is remove the sheetrock and see if there is any moisture inside the walls. If there is no moisture then you need to remove all the sheetrock on that wall, insulate the wall then put new sheetrock back on. This most likely resolve the issue. Can I paint over moldy drywall?
You're kidding, right? No, you can't paint over mold and expect it to be handled. Mold has to be properly treated if you want to protect your health and your room. Mold lives on paper and will continue to travel on the drywall.
i would wipe the walls with bleach first and try to scrap it off then i would paint it
There is a product called Kilz that is a sealant and base coat primer. But use something else first that is specifically for mold. At least give it a good scrub or sponging with TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate), then let it dry well, or even use a blow dryer on it. But you don't want to spread or blow mold spores.

The drywall could be much more moldy underneath, and spreading, so you are best off removing the moldy drywall, but that is potentially a big job, and you may need respiration equipment.

Have you fixed the cause of the moisture allowing the mold to grow ?
