Why is my drywall taking so long to paint?

I am on my third coat of white primer and the original paint is still showing though, it is like the walls are absorbing the paint! why is it like this? Why is my drywall taking so long to paint?
The primer performs 3 functions ...

It seals the previous color so that it won't show through the new paint,

It improves adhesion for the new paint, and

It eliminates (or at least reduces!) the need for multiple coats of paint.

You don't need multiple coats of primer (maybe 2 IF you're covering red or a dark color with white or a light color). It's OK if some of the old color still shows in places ... that's normal.

Just go on to your topcoat ... it should be fine. Why is my drywall taking so long to paint?
Are you painting raw drywall? Are you using drywall primer? There is a product made by Sheetrock (USG) called First Coat that is specifically made to prime drywall. The wall does NOT have to be totally opaque. The primer is applied to seal the wall, not cover it. Some of the joints will show through, but the finish paint will cover them. Be sure to use a good paint. Saving a few dollars per gallon, but having to apply extra coats, does not work out to saving money. I always use Super Spec from Benjamin Moore. It's their pro line of paint, but it's cheaper than their Regal line, which is geared towards homeowners. It covers a lot better than Behr, and holds up better as well. Hope this helps.
Try something like Kilz.
